the beaches
Jaco Beach Jaco Beach is the closest accessible beach to San Jose and still has the reputation of being the "fun and sun" spot on the Pacific coast. Jacó is one of the two largest party cities on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Playa Jacó is considered the liveliest and most developed beach town on the Pacific coast. Jacó is about 80 miles from San Jose's airport, a beautiful drive of just over three hours. From Juan Santamaria International Airport, follow the signs toward San Ramon. After 6 miles, take the exit toward Atenas and at the stop sign, turn left. Follow the winding street until you get to San Mateo. At San Mateo, the road jogs right a block because of one way traffic (towards you). Just follow the road around and you will get back on the main drag. When approaching Orotonia, a sign directs you to the right. Don't follow it!' (you'll get lost in the business district). Stay straight until you see the sign on the right directing you to Jacó. Follow that road to Jacó. From here on in, it is just following signs to Jacó. Alternatively, drive from San Jose past San Ramon toward Puntarenas, until you get to hwy 27. Go south on 27 and follow the signs to Jaco. It's further but much faster since it is not a mountain road. Another plus is that you can stop at the bridge over the Tarcoles River along the way - a prime spot to observe wild crocodiles. Note it is not legal to feed the crocodiles. They are protected. A quiet beach some ten years ago mostly frequented by Ticos and campers, Playa Herradura was an unknown paradise. A superb black sand beach with aqua green waters and a palm tree lined shoreline; Playa Herradura is today a tourist hotspot on the Northern Puntarenas coast. Ideal for those who want to get away from the hustle of Jaco, this beach has bloomed into becoming a much traveled vacation destination. To get to Playa Herradura take the turnoff on Costanera Sur, north of Jaco and drive some 3 km down the road west to the beach. Home to the Hotel Villa Caletas, a fantastic luxury hotel with plenty of features and amenities as well as a marina, condominium complex and golf course, this beach area is rapidly becoming one of the biggest tourism developments in Costa Rica. However, with its tranquil waters, Playa Herradura still draws in a number of locals who want a quiet getaway. Even with its many touristy projects Playa Herradura still does not attract as many visitors as Jaco does, making it a great place to slip away. From Playa Herradura you can also head up north to the lovely Refugio Punta Leona, or down south to the wonderful Playa Hermosa. An important point that most tourists need to be aware of is the fact that there are two beaches named Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica. One is located in Guanacaste, while the other Playa Hermosa lies in Puntarenas. The Playa Hermosa that is in Puntarenas is one of the best surfing havens in the country. However this Playa Hermosa located in Guanacaste is just 20 minutes from the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. One of the best maintained beaches in the country, Playa Hermosa, offers visitors crystal clear blue waters and gorgeous scenery, making it a very popular beach strip on the west coast. Winner of the ‘Bandera Azul’ or ‘Blue Flag’, a prize given to beaches that demonstrate high environmental standards and excellent safety facilities, Playa Hermosa lies seven kilometers north of Playas del Coco. Meaning ‘beautiful beach’ in Spanish, Playa Hermosa has made a name for itself with its idyllic beauty and lush surroundings. A two-kilometer long gray sand beach, encircled by tropical forests and ridges of volcanic rock, Hermosa Beach is a great family destination for all to enjoy. This beach is relaxed, rarely crowded and laid back most of the year, making it a great retreat for those who wish to just lie back leisurely and enjoy the sun. With warm water temperatures and ideal weather conditions all year long, Playa Hermosa is the perfect haven with convenient accommodations and restaurants that line the beach shore. Recently, many luxury hotels have also set up base out in Playa Hermosa to take advantage of the pristine conditions. Perfect for swimming and scuba diving, Playa Hermosa offers amazing diving safaris and snorkeling opportunities for those who enjoy being out in the sea. With some of the best scuba diving in the country, you can also have great fun renting out kayaks, sailboards, windsurfing equipment, canoes, jet skis and water bikes from the many shops that line the beach. Local tourist companies also offer organized fishing trips as well as catamaran rides along the Hermosa coast for those who prefer a more tranquil holiday. For those who prefer to try their luck on land, there are guided horseback tours available in the surrounding areas, as well as trips to a nearby gorgeous mangrove swamp. If you wish, you can even take a day trip to the Arenal Volcano and relax in the hot springs found close by. the transportation Costa Rica Executive Transportation Costa Rica Executive Transportation ![]() ![]() If you are traveling to Costa Rica

Much of the Canopy's 46 hectares of protected area is covered with transitional rainforest growing on steep slopes, and studded massive trees laden with vines and epiphytes. Our Canopy Tour consists of 13 platforms, 7 cables of different sizes, 3 storey Tree House, Tarzan Swing, a suspension bridge and a 90 feet rappel at the end. The tour starts with putting on your harness, these are professional mountain climbing harnesses. Then we do a short walk in, I will explain you about the area you are in, and the flora and fauna you will encounter on the trails. Since a part of the forest has been used for agroforestry, a wide variety of exotic fruit trees and hardwood trees can be found. Also throughout the day, the scarlet macaws can be heard and often seen in flight, particularly around dusk! The beautiful giant blue Morpho butterfly frequents open spots in the forest and is often found near our waterfalls. If we get lucky we may also see the toucans, aracari's and white-face capuchin monkeys. We take to the trees near the waterfalls, here you find the first platform with a short slide. From there you will glide with the help of professional climbing gear on a pulley to the first tree (an enormous Ceiba tree with a diameter of 30 feet!). At all times you are under the constant care of our guides! You will be taking cables from treetop to treetop in this jungle until you get to the Tree house; Jane and Tarzan's place! This is the highest point of the Canopy Tour, you'll be 100 feet over ground level… Here you can hang out for a while to enjoy the scenery. The tree house offers a great opportunity to do some bird watching. Go on and try to spot some of the colorful birds present! More cables will follow until you reach a suspension bridge and the Tarzan Swing! Let's do a yelling contest! The Tarzan Swing is followed by our longest cable for the truly adventurous (optional cable)! At the end we will rappel you down (belay, this is a professional lowering technique) to the forest floor. Duration of the Waterfalls Canopy Tour: approx. 2 hours From Jaco, driving north towards
San Jose, pass by Jaco. You will see just outside Jaco a small mall at
your left called F&M, just pass by it and cross the bridge over the
Las Monas River. Right after the bridge take a right turn towards Pueblo
Nuevo, this road is a dirt road, we are located at the end of this little
village approx. at 2 km from this intersection.

the things to do Manuel
Antonio National Park
Manuel Antonio contains a charming combination of rain forest, beaches and coral reefs. This beaches are the most beautiful in the country, lined with lush forest, and the snorkeling is excellent too. The forest is home for sloths, iguanas, the rare and adorable squirrel monkeys and millions of colorful little crabs. And the trail that winds around Punta Catedral affords some spectacular views. The park is easy to reach, south of the town of Quepos, and is near a good selection of hotels and restaurants. Visiting the park, one is treated
to an abundant diversity of wildlife. Cathedral Point, with its forest
topped cliffs was once an island, but is now connected to the coast by
a thin strip of island. This land bridge now forms the spine separating
the parks two most popular beaches, Playa Espadilla Sur and Playa Manuel
Antonio.
Standing with your feet dug into the sand and watching the wave crash against the rocks on either side of the lagoon, it is easy to believe that you are a thousand miles from anywhere. Getting there

National Park
Carara is located in the transitional area between the dry and moist forests of the Pacific Region. It can be said that no other wildlife area in the country protects the resources of plants and animals present in that bioclimatic region. This wildlife area is considered an excellent living laboratory, where it’s possible to study the structure and function of tropical ecosystems and the relationship among them. The mean annual temperature is 27° C. LOCATION The Park is located 90 km from the capital city, following the coastal south road and the center of the banks of River Grande de Tárcoles. The time it takes from San José is approximately two hours and is a part of the Central Pacific Conservation Area. ACCESS San José – Orotina, 25 km by the road to Jacó MAIN ATTRACTIONS In Carara we distinguish three life zones: the tropical moist forest transition to pre-moist, the tropical very moist forest transition to moist and the very moist pre-montane forest. Among the most outstanding fauna can be found the peccary, ocelot, white-faced monkeys, and macaws. Some of the animal species cited before are in danger of extinction or have reduced populations. This Park counts with numerous remnants of pre-Columbian indigenous occupations, that to this date are not open to the public. SERVICES OFFERED General information, bilingual staff, potable water, restrooms and trails, parking area; lodging for researchers and volunteers (prior request in writing, w/15-days anticipation and depending on vacancies), telephone, local bilingual guides, look-outs.
